Depression: Let’s talk

Depression is a common mental health disorder affecting people of all ages, irrespective of status, class, level of education, gender and in all countries.
Several factors increase your tendency of becoming depressed such as
-being unemployed- no job at all or loss of job
-your experience of a major life events such as the death of a spouse/close family member/ your loved one(s)
or relationship break-up e.g Divorce
– personal injury or illness
– Alcohol or Drug-related problems
– Past history of Pregnancy related mental health problems
And so on.
Depression affects majorly your mood and can impact on your ability to carry out your usual or normal everyday tasks, with devastating consequences atimes especially on your social well-being in relationships with your family and friends.
There are signs you need to watch out for such as feeling helpless or hopeless, Fatigue, low or excessive sleeping, loss of interest in your usual daily activities such as work and hobbies , loss of appetitte or excessive eating affecting weight and so on.
You need to seek appropriate help so it can be managed well in order to avoid the devastating effect on your general well-being , work, social life with family and friends.
If depression is not treated or managed appropriately, it can lead to SUICIDE as a form of complication
You need to understand that depression can be prevented and treated effectively to maintain good mental health.
There are treatment options which include using drugs called ANTIDEPRESSANTS and/or TALK THERAPY of various forms as the case may be ( depending on your needs after review with an expert).
There is another aspect of depression that needs to be worked on by everyone close to the depressed client.
STIGMATIZATION needs to be stopped. This helps the depressed clients seek help early and appropriately.
